July 6, 2015
We woke up at first light to get an early start. It was cloudy and not too warm yet. We each did our chores to get ready to leave and were on the road at 8:20. The skies were mostly cloudy for most of the day. We left Georgia and crossed over into South Carolina around 9:30.
South Carolina has a beautiful entryway into the state at the border on I-95.
We crossed over the Savannah River that marks the boundary between Georgia and South Carolina.
In South Carolina, I-95 becomes a two lane road lined by trees. At times, the trees form a canopy over the road making it feel like a tunnel.
The sun finally came out as we crossed into North Carolina at 1:30. Traffic was pretty heavy most of the day, but we went through downtown Charlotte without any problems. We arrived at the KOA campground near Statesville, North Carolina around 2:30.
We set up camp and stretched our legs. More campers arrived in the campground all day. We relaxed and had a later dinner of grilled chicken. After dinner, Auggie and I took a nice long walk down to the dog park where he got to run around loose and sniff until his heart’s content. From there, we walked around the perimeter of the campground looking at all the different RVs that people had. It was a beautiful night with no rain in sight. We’ll move on tomorrow–one day closer to Niagara Falls.
