Stuart to Lake Worth, FL

We took our time getting ready to leave this morning and pulled out around 9:45. We didn’t have far to go. We took the 40 mile drive to Lake Worth and the John Prince Memorial Park campground. We arrived at 10:40, checked in, and went to our site to set up.

We would be here a couple of days to check out the area around Lake Worth and West Palm Beach. It would be a little cooler today (upper 70’s), but sunny. This park/campground lost almost all its trees with Hurricane Wilma in 2005 so we hoped for a site with some shade. The campground has 211 campsites and is situated along the shore of Lake Osborne. It is adjacent to a huge park with lots of amenities. We had site #57 with a great view right on the lake. The lake does have alligators, so we won’t be able to leave Auggie outside alone on his tether. We don’t want him to become some gator’s lunch. As we set up, Bob noticed that there was a rainbow ring around the sun–a sundog. It was beautiful. Bob was able to get a great picture!

We just hung out in the campground for most of the day. Later in the afternoon, we took a short drive to the AAA office in Wellington to get ourselves a tour book that listed the sights to see in the area. Tomorrow we would explore the beach and see what’s along the coast. We had cocktails before dinner and enjoyed sitting by the lake with the afternoon seabreeze blowing in.

Bob cooked steaks on the grill while Auggie explored the grounds under supervision. After dinner, Auggie and I took a nice walk around the campgrounds where he was able to meet other dogs. We watched a beautiful sunset as the evening coolness set in.
