We slept late by our standards–until 8:00. We were gone from the campground by 10:30. Today was mostly cloudy with a temp of 59 degrees and an occasional light sprinkle. Our trip today would take us 140 miles through Massachusetts and Providence, RI (our only time spent in RI) to Connecticut.
We took I-495 around Boston and I mean, way around Boston and then I-95 south into Rhode Island around noon.
The scenery was interesting. As you can see from our GPS screen in the truck, there was a ton of road construction in Rhode Island.
I-95 took us right through the capital of Providence. The capital building had porticos on each corner of the building.
Then we were out in the countryside and traffic was light to the border of CT.
Our campground is right over the border in CT.
The sun came out and the temp rose to 72. We arrived at our campground, Mystic KOA, at 1:00.
When we checked in, Bob found out there was a group of 25 RVers traveling in a caravan together at our campground. Twenty of them had already arrived and they were waiting for the last 5 to get here. We had a nice campsite sitting on a hill under 2 mature trees. We set up camp on site C7 and sat outside to enjoy the sunshine. We haven’t seen much of that lately.
I enjoy getting to the campground early in the afternoon to be able to enjoy some time outside at the campsite. We spent some time working out the rest of our trip to at least Williamsburg, VA. That would be our last big stop on our way home. We don’t know what to expect in North Carolina from Hurricane Florence. When we left Massachusetts this morning, we had seen a rise in the ponds and rivers near us in the last 2 days, since the rain from Tropical Storm Florence got to us on Tuesday, so I expect the waters are still rising in North Carolina. I guess we’ll figure that out when we got closer. We relaxed a little in the afternoon before dinner. We had chicken on the grill and then took our evening walk. It’s always interesting to see where all the other campers are from. Tomorrow we will spend the day in the seaport town of Mystic.
