We slept in today….to about 7:30. We were moving on today to Big Lagoon State Park. The drive is about 2 hours so we don’t need to hurry. Bob took some time to wash the truck while I prepped the trailer for travel. We pulled out of the campground around 11:30 and drove down Highway 98. It took us through Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and on to Pensacola. For the most part, we traveled through populated areas and traffic was pretty heavy, but we still made good time. In crossing the long bridge from Destin to Ft. Walton Beach, we could see boats gathered on this huge sand bar. The “tiki bar” was a bar with jet ski rentals.
The orange structure was a small restaurant. It looked like a fun place to be!
The bridge took us to Okaloosa Island on our way to Pensacola.
The bridge over Pensacola Bay took us to the mainland. It was a tall bridge and Bob was a little nervous going over it. Once we were over the top and going down the other side, he was fine.
We arrived at Big Lagoon State Park around 1:30 and set up camp.
We had a great site (not as luxurious at Topsail, but nice just the same). Auggie had a great space to hunt for geckos and he was happy.
We have a lot of things planned for our visit here, so the time will fly by. We were all settled in and by 2:30 we had some time to relax before dinner. We checked out the other areas of the campground and had an early dinner. After dinner, we walked Auggie around the campground to see who else was here. Auggie and I took the boardwalk to the beach area.
They are predicting the cold front to move through the area tomorrow, so we are waiting in anticipation for the cooler days and nights.
