After all the rain we had yesterday, it was nice to see the sun today. We made plans to take the free bus down to the beach later in the morning and spend some time looking around. While Bob took Auggie for his walk, I did some “boat” cleaning. Yep…..you have to clean the inside of the boat, especially if you are living on it. Some vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen are all chores that need to be done. (Believe it or not, I do have a central vacuum in this boat.) After the chores were done, we walked to the bus stop which was located at the end of our dock and waited for the bus. It picked us up at 10:45 and we rode the few miles into town. We got off in front of Humiston Park and walked to the beach.
The ocean was so calm and glassy today. We haven’t seen it like that in such a long time. There were some beachgoers on the beach, but not a lot.
We walked along the boardwalk to check out the action at the beach.
When the boardwalk ended, we walked on the beach to get to the Driftwood inn and Resort. The Driftwood is an iconic resort which was established by Waldo Sexton and named to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1994. It is filled with artifacts and built of driftwood pieces that Waldo had collected from all his travels.
We headed for Waldo’s By the Sea Restaurant right on the beach which is part of the Driftwood Resort. We found a couple of seats at the bar and sat down to have a beer.
We checked out the menu and decided to order their nachos! They were delicious and more than enough for two.
Afterwards, we strolled along the main street of shops and restaurants doing some window shopping. We were ready to head back to the boat as it started to mist a little, so we caught the 1:00 bus back to the marina. Once we got back to the boat, I took Auggie out for a walk before it started to rain. We relaxed in the boat and around 3:00 the storms moved in. A squall line passed through the area and the winds picked up. The rain came down so hard that you couldn’t see across the marina. I did happen to look out and see this boat with 4 people coming towards the fuel dock.
At first it looked like they were trying to keep the boat safely away from any structures while the winds blew, but after a few minutes they brought the boat into the marina and pulled it it up to the fuel dock. They jumped off of the boat and took shelter. The rain continued, off and on, for most of the night. We will move on tomorrow to Cocoa Village Marina which is 55 miles north of here.
