Hilton Head Island, Day 3

We left the trailer at 10:00 to head down to Burke’s Beach on the eastern shore of the island. We thought we’d spend a few hours soaking up the sun and get back in time for closing arguments o the George Zimmerman trial at 1:00. (Honestly, we’ve been riveted to the proceedings of this trial for the last 2 weeks. Even while driving, we’ve been able to listen to it on the radio and have been very invested in following the trial.) At the beach, it was sunny with temps in the upper 80’s and there was a nice seabreeze blowing. We chose a quiet section of the beach where people were surfing in the waves or fishing in the surf. Further down the beach, there were private homes and more beach-goers.

I had to test out the water and it was wonderful! I walked on the beach a little, but there were very few shells.

Upon further exploration, I spotted this crab camoflaged in the sand. What an odd looking creature he was!

We enjoyed the morning and left the beach about 12:30 with a quick stop at Wal-Mart. We were back at the trailer around 1:00 to relax and watch the trial. Auggie got to enjoy some outdoor time in the “backyard” with the neighbor dogs.

We spent an hour at the pool and had it all to ourselves. Around 5:00, our neighbors, Carol and Phil, invited us over to their patio for cocktails. They are from Daytona Beach and keep their fifth wheel here as their vacation getaway. We spent about an hour visiting with them and then returned to cook dinner. We had pork chops on the grill and then took our evening walk before sunset. We relaxed with some TV. Tomorrow we head up to Charleston for the weekend.
