Cayo Costa to Ft. Myers

Happy birthday to me! The wind picked up overnight which made for some noisy, sleepless hours…for me. Bob slept like a baby. We made preparations to leave and pulled anchor just before 9:00. It was going to be a hot, steamy day with some rainy, windy weather to come, brewing in the Gulf. We’ll have to make plans on where we want to be when it arrives. There were more clouds today than we’ve seen in quite a few days, but that didn’t deter anyone from being out on the water. Boat traffic was heavy as we neared Ft. Myers and the Miserable Mile.

We passed two boats that were towing a Hatteras sportfish (fore and aft) which had obvious damage to the top and sides.

Otherwise, the day was mostly uneventful, but we did have some dolphins swim along with us again. That’s always fun!

At Ft. Myers Yacht Basin we took on fuel and got a pumpout for the holding tank. We got tied up to the dock for the night with the AC on by 1:30. We had a short rain shower and then the sun came out. We relaxed for awhile before our friends, Bernie and Barb, arrived to have cocktails on the boat with us. Later, we went for a celebratory birthday dinner in town. Main Street had a car show going on so we stopped to look at all the cool cars and hot rods.

Someone that caught my eye, was this guy who carried around this wooden fish purse. Now that’s a guy that’s comfortable in his own skin.

We took a slow walk over to Joe’s Crab Shack for dinner and ran into some friends, Matt and Rita, from WI who kept their boat at the same marina we did… Alibi Dock in Fish Creek. What a small world we live in!

We had a wonderful dinner, complete with an ice cream drink and Key lime pie for dessert. It was a great day spent with good friends and nice way to start off my 60’s! Things are looking good!
